Spinal Flow
A Short Personal Reflection
I have just returned from an extraordinary experience and I would love to share just a small part with you.
I recently completed my Spinal Flow immersive training in person at the Gold Coast. It was one of those weeks where you just know the universe did a great job leading me to this new modality of healing and then looking after things while I was there.
As this experience was so unique, it’s actually quite hard to explain, but I’ll try with an analogy.
Imagine you are in a small sailboat. Just you.
You’re traveling somewhere, but you don’t quite know the destination (ball park yes), or really the route you are taking or how to navigate your way there in a sail boat!
You’re surrounded by other people, in their own small boats on the same path. All of us learning a new skill, holding space, providing support and healing at the same time.
My room mates for the Australian Spinal Flow Immersive 2026!
That was my Spinal Flow Immersive.
It was intense, beautiful, challenging, emotional and, at times, quite extraordinary.
Within the week, I met and spent hours talking with people from all over the world, but formed an extra special bond with three of women who I was lucky enough to stay with. And honestly, from the moment we met, we just gelled. It was like we had known each other for years.
I couldn't have wished for better people to share this experience with.
I know these beautiful women will be in my life for a very long time.
So I’ve come home feeling incredibly grateful, a little overwhelmed by everything I experienced, and very excited to bring Spinal Flow to my local community in Young and surrounds.
What is Spinal Flow Therapy?
Spinal Flow is a therapeutic modality that works with the relationship between the spine, the nervous system and the body's innate ability to heal.
Our nervous system is constantly responding to what is happening around us and within us. When we experience stress or a perceived threat, the sympathetic nervous system helps prepare the body to respond. Once that threat has passed, the body is designed to move back towards a calmer state, where rest, digestion and repair can take place.
The problem is that life doesn't always give us much opportunity to slow down.
There can be physical stress, emotional stress, chemical stress, work stress, relationship stress, financial stress, illness, injury, poor sleep and sometimes all at once.
And while our nervous system is incredibly good at helping us respond to stress, ongoing or repeated stress can place a significant load on the systems involved in regulation and recovery.
This is where Spinal Flow comes in.
Spinal Flow uses very gentle, non-invasive touch at specific points along the spine to work with what we call spinal blockages. These are layers of physical, chemical and emotional stress that can create tension and restriction within the spine and influence how the nervous system communicates with the rest of the body.
The spine is an important part of the communication network between the brain and the rest of the body. The nerves that branch from the spinal cord extend throughout the body, connecting the nervous system with our muscles, tissues, organs and glands. This is why working with the spine and nervous system can have effects that are felt well beyond the area being worked on.
The technique has a specific framework, including seven spinal gateways and 33 access points, which practitioners are trained to assess and work with. These gateways provide a map for understanding where layers of stress and tension may be held within the body. Spinal Flow works with this relationship, using gentle, specific touch to support the flow of spinal fluid along the spine, gentle supporting the natural flow of spinal fluid.
At the heart of Spinal Flow is the concept of innate intelligence which is the understanding that the body already has an incredible capacity to regulate, repair and restore balance.
Think about when you cut your finger or break a bone. We can clean the wound, stabilise the bone and provide the right conditions for healing, but ultimately the body does the healing.
Spinal Flow works with this same principle.
Who might be interested in Spinal Flow?
Spinal Flow is a safe treatment for babies, children and adults. This modality might be something to explore if you are experiencing things such as:
ongoing stress or difficulty switching off
sleep issues
physical tension or stiffness
headaches or neck and back discomfort
feeling constantly “on” or unable to relax
wanting to reconnect with your body
wanting to support nervous system regulation
moving through a particularly stressful period of life or working htrough
simply feeling like your body needs some space to slow down
Even though these are the kinds of issues that may lead people to Spinal Flow, it’s important to remember that the body doesn’t work in separate parts. The nervous system is constantly communicating with our organs, tissues and glands, so when we support the nervous system, the effects can be felt throughout the body. This is why people can experience improvements in many different areas — and often in ways they weren't expecting.
What happens during a Spinal Flow session?
When you book your first Spinal Flow appointment, you’ll receive a health questionnaire with your appointment confirmation.
Please take some time to complete this before you come in. It gives you the opportunity to share what has brought you to Spinal Flow, your current health concerns and anything else you feel is important for me to know.
Your initial Spinal Flow appointment will be a little longer than a regular session, as we’ll spend some time going through your questionnaire together. This gives me the opportunity to understand your current health picture, what you would like to work on and where you would like to go from here.
We’ll then complete some initial assessments, including looking at posture and the spinal gateways, before moving onto the treatment table.
For the treatment, you’ll remain fully clothed and lie face down on the table. I’ll use very gentle, specific touch along the spine and at the relevant access points, working with the areas identified during your assessment.
The touch is light and non-invasive, with the intention of providing gentle input to the nervous system and supporting the body to release tension and stress.
Everyone responds differently to a session. You may simply experience a deep sense of relaxation, or you may notice changes in your breathing, movement or sensations in your body. Some people also experience an emotional response.
There is no right or wrong way to experience a session. This is body led healing.
Where to from here
I am genuinely excited to bring Spinal Flow to Young and the surrounding community.
Our bodies are constantly working towards balance. Sometimes they just need the opportunity to slow down, feel safe and create the right conditions for the body to do what it already knows how to do, awaken its innate healing potential.
