Perimenopause is a period up to 10 years before your last menstrual period. The sex hormones that established during puberty now decline, but not always in a gradual or smooth way. Particularly estrogen can fluctuate which can cause hot flushes, vaginal dryness, brain fog and irritability. Our ovaries stops ovulating regularly which is when our body produces progesterone, a feel good and calming hormone. Symptoms are not inevitable during this time, but many women will experience some or many of the common signs (see below).
